Step-by-Step Instructions
1. Site Preparation: Choose a flat area in your yard with enough clearance around. Mark a 10x12 ft rectangle.
2. Post Installation: Dig holes 3 ft deep for the 4x4 posts at each corner and midpoints for support. Set posts in concrete and ensure they are plumb and level. Posts should elevate the platform about 5 ft off the ground.
3. Frame the Platform: Attach 2x6 beams around the perimeter atop the posts with lag bolts. Add 2x6 joists spaced 16 inches apart across the width for support.
4. Install Decking: Secure plywood sheets on top of the joists as your platform floor.
5. Build Walls: Construct four wall frames using 2x4 lumber with window cutouts. Build side door frame and trap door frame on ladder wall.
6. Attach Walls: Securely fasten wall frames to the platform edges using screws and brackets.
7. Ladder and Trap Door: Build a sturdy ladder and attach it to the side with hinges for the trap door. Ensure the trap door fits flush and can be securely latched.
8. Fire Pole Exit: Cut a side door opening opposite the ladder. Install the door with hinges and latch. Mount the fire pole securely from the platform to the ground, ensuring safety clearance.
9. Roof Framing: Build a peaked roof frame from 2x4s, attach it on top of the walls.
10. Roof Sheathing and Waterproofing: Cover the roof frame with plywood, then lay roofing felt, followed by asphalt shingles. Install metal flashing along edges to prevent leaks.
11. Windows: Install plexiglass or safety glass in window openings, seal with caulk.
12. Finishing: Sand all rough edges, prime and paint or stain the entire structure for weather protection.
13. Safety Checks: Inspect all fasteners, ensure ladder and fire pole are stable, and all surfaces are smooth to prevent splinters.
14. Optional: Add railings around the platform for extra safety.
Enjoy your new elevated playhouse!
